Thank you for your support of our students and your willingness to advocate for full, in-person learning in the fall. Your voices are being heard! Many districts have created plans that allow for in-person learning, while still creating an environment that is as safe as possible for students and staff. Local, state, and national education associations are pushing back on districts and challenging the return to in-classroom learning. Your consistent messages of support to your school boards, encouraging them to stand firm in their plans to return in-person learning are important. Please call or email your school district’s Board of Education today! Contact information can be found on your district website. Sample letters to the board are provided below:

Thank you for your thoughtful leadership throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Your quick decision making and hand-in-hand partnership with public health departments allowed Colorado to mitigate the spread and keep communities as safe as possible. The decision to close schools in the spring was a necessary one. We needed to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19. We did just that! Now we need your leadership and a swift, decisive message from you on the importance of students getting back into the classroom full time this fall. I implore you to update capacity restrictions statewide to reasonable limits of at least 25 students per classroom now to allow school districts the time needed to plan for a safe, full-time return of students in the fall. Now it is time to put our students first! The academic, social, and emotional needs of our kids are at risk. Thank you for continuing to set Colorado apart as a leader, utilizing the right interventions at the right time to best meet the needs of our communities. Let’s get our kids back on track!

Our team is working to track how many letters and how many public comments are submitted in each district. Please reach out to Monica Colbert to share how you would like to engage or to request assistance in drafting your own personal comments.

Safely Back to School Talking Points

Join our Coalition

The following organizations joined our coalition and confirmed support of the following statement:

Get our kids back to school — safely, this Fall. As a broad, diverse coalition of parents, educators, healthcare professionals, community groups, nonprofits, civic organizations, advocacy organizations, chambers of commerce, and business leaders, we are united in our hope that Colorado’s K-12 schools will safely reopen this fall for in-person learning.  Many students, particularly from underserved backgrounds, simply cannot access a quality education if schools do not offer an option for full-time, in-person learning. As businesses reopen, the lack of full-time in-person learning creates incredible difficulties for working parents. We are committed to ensuring that schools reopen with the proper safety protocols to protect the health of students, teachers, staff, and the broader community. Kids get one chance at an education and we are here to support them as they develop as learners and citizens.
